While it might not be the sort of mystery that Indiana Jones would pursue through the well-decorated halls and corridors of fashionable buildings, the secrets of interior design are still a goal well worth pursuing. If you have an eye for color, a flair for mixing textures and angles and if an empty room is, to you, what an empty canvas is to an artist, then you might be able to unearth just enough of them to be successful in the field.
There are very few actual secrets in the art of interior design. Almost all of them are either being splashed about on magazine covers and in design blogs as they emerge, or they are recorded in one of the hundreds of great books written on the subject. Of course, to learn them with an eye to becoming a professional interior designer, you would want a guide to take you on the journey of discovery. You'd find that guide at any of the fine schools where competent students earn degrees in this exciting field all over the world.
If, on the other hand, your pursuit of these not-so-legendary secrets will be purely for your own personal enjoyment, I'd highly recommend you do three simple things. First, subscribe to a good home interior magazine. Secondly, do spend time on the Internet surfing the various design blogs and websites for updated information. Finally, spend some time in a library - unless you want to buy the tomes, and read about how it ought to be done. (Save money! Great bargains on used design textbooks can be found on-line everyday!)
The secrets of interior design are epic. Everyone knows a few. Still, learning them and adding them to your own knowledge bank is an adventure with rewards. It will compensate you with beautiful rooms, offices and an eye for the next great trend, or maybe the idea to set one of your own!
